Eisenhower State Park covers 423.1 acres on the shore of Lake Texoma northwest of Denison. It has 4.5 miles of hike and bike trails, a lighted fishing pier, campsites, screened shelters, a boat dock, an amphitheater, and a 10-acre ATV/mini bike area. The Eisenhower Yacht Club, a privately operated marina, is also within the park.
The park was acquired in 1954 through a lease from the United States Department of the Army and opened to the public in 1958. It is managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and is named for Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th U.S. president, who was born in Denison. In the early 1830s the area served as a route for Anglo settlers heading to Texas and the American southwest, and as cattle trail country.
