Cypremort Point State Park, State park near Franklin, Louisiana
Cypremort Point State Park is a coastal park in southern Louisiana with a man-made sandy beach that opens directly onto the Gulf of Mexico. It offers elevated rental cabins, boat docks, a fish cleaning station, and open water access for swimming and boating.
The park was created to give inland Louisiana communities a place to reach the Gulf Coast for recreation, an area where natural sandy beaches are otherwise rare. The man-made beach was added specifically because the shoreline here does not naturally form sand.
The docks draw local anglers year-round, with flounder and redfish being the most common targets in these brackish waters. Many families come here not just for sport but as part of a long-standing habit tied to Gulf Coast life.
The park is open to day visitors and to those spending the night in one of the cabins, which come equipped with basic cooking gear. Coastal weather can shift quickly, so checking local conditions before going out on the water is a good habit here.
Despite being a beach park, the surrounding wetlands are home to alligators, black bears, nutria, and muskrats that can sometimes be spotted near the park's edges. Early morning walks along the less-used paths give the best chance of seeing them without much effort.
