The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is a public research institution in Lafayette, Louisiana, offering more than 240 academic programs and research facilities. The site covers several hundred acres with lecture halls, laboratories, dormitories, and park-like areas crossed by paths and water features.
The institution was founded in 1898 as Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute and initially focused on vocational training. Over the course of the 20th century, it grew into a full university and adopted its current name in 1999.
