St. Mark's Episcopal Church
St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Gothic Revival church in Shreveport, United States.
St. Mark's Episcopal Church is a Gothic Revival building with pointed arches, steep roofs, and carved stone details at the corner of Fairfield Avenue and Rutherford Street. Inside, an E.M. Skinner organ from 1920 stands as the main musical instrument, later expanded with additional Aeolian-Skinner components.
The Episcopal congregation was founded in 1839 and held its first services under Bishop Leonidas Polk. The present building was constructed in 1954, and the parish was elevated to cathedral status in 1990.
This place has been central to the Episcopal community in the city for more than 180 years. Inside, regular services in multiple languages show how the congregation brings people together across different backgrounds.
The church sits at the corner of Fairfield Avenue and Rutherford Street and is easy to locate from the street. Visitors should check in advance to learn which areas are open to the public and when specific services or events take place.
The church operates Holy Cross Hope House, a program helping people experiencing homelessness in the area. This service demonstrates how the parish translates its faith into practical support for the community.
