Chamberlain-Hunt Academy, Private boarding school in Port Gibson, United States.
Chamberlain-Hunt Academy is a historic school campus in Port Gibson featuring multiple buildings with classical architectural details and rooms for both classroom instruction and student housing. The layout allowed students in grades 7 through 12 to live and study on a single site.
The academy was founded in 1879 as an outgrowth of Oakland College and initially operated under military-style educational principles. Changes in the early 1970s moved the institution away from that structure.
The school integrated Presbyterian values throughout its programs, combining religious instruction with academic study in ways that shaped daily student life. This approach influenced how young people spent their time both in and out of the classroom.
The grounds can be viewed from outside even though it is a former private school, and the classical architecture of the buildings is worth observing. It helps to learn in advance about the site since the buildings now have different uses.
The buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places, recognizing their architectural and historical importance. The school operated continuously for around 135 years before closing in 2014.
