Hope is the county seat of Hempstead County in Arkansas and sits at an elevation of 107 meters (351 feet) above sea level. The city spreads across flat land in the southwestern part of the state, near the Texas border.
The settlement grew along the Cairo and Fulton Railroad line that came through the area starting in 1873. Hempstead County itself is one of the oldest administrative units in Arkansas and was established as early as 1818.
The name comes from the daughter of an early landowner and was chosen in 1873 when the railroad came through the settlement. Watermelons grown in the area are widely known across Arkansas and celebrated each year at a local festival.
The county courthouse sits in the center and is within easy walking distance from most streets in town. Visitor services and public facilities are open during weekday daytime hours and can be accessed directly.
Bill Clinton's birthplace is now a national park and can be visited. The headquarters of Klipsch Audio Technologies remained in the small town until the 2000s even though the brand is sold worldwide.
