Driskill Mountain, Mountain summit in Bienville Parish, United States.
Driskill Mountain is Louisiana's highest natural point, rising about 535 feet (165 m) above sea level through a densely forested landscape. The terrain consists mainly of wooded paths winding through pine and hardwood trees to reach the modest summit.
The mountain was named after James Christopher Driskill, who migrated from Georgia to Louisiana with his family during the 1850s. This naming reflects the settlement patterns of early Euro-American families in the region.
Mount Zion Presbyterian Church near the summit serves as a local meeting point for the community and connects people to this special outdoor place.
The hike starts behind the nearby church and covers about one mile (1.6 km) through forest with clear trail markers to the summit. The route is easy to follow, though the path can become muddy or slippery after rain.
Jack Longacre, founder of the Highpointers Club, chose this summit as his final resting place, with his ashes scattered there in 2002. This made the mountain a meaningful site for members of this climbing enthusiast organization.
