Jimmie Davis State Park, Recreational park in Jackson Parish, United States.
Jimmie Davis State Park is a state recreational park in Jackson Parish, Louisiana, set on a forested peninsula that juts into Caney Creek Lake. Mixed pine and hardwood trees cover most of the land, and the shoreline runs along much of the park's edge, with several boat docks accessible from different points.
The park opened in 1996 under the name Caney Creek Lake State Park, taking its identity from the reservoir it surrounds. It was renamed in 2003 to honor Jimmie Davis, who had served two terms as governor of Louisiana.
The park is named after Jimmie Davis, a former Louisiana governor who also had a career as a country singer and recorded "You Are My Sunshine." Visitors walking along the lake or fishing from the docks share the space with that local legacy every day.
The park has waterfront cabins, group lodges, and campsites, so booking ahead is a good idea, especially during warmer months when demand is higher. Bringing or renting a boat makes it much easier to explore the lake and reach the more secluded spots along the shoreline.
Caney Creek Lake holds the record for the largest largemouth bass ever caught in Louisiana, a catch that put this reservoir on the map for serious anglers across the region. That reputation means the lake draws fishing visitors who come specifically because of that record, not just for a casual day out.
