Lake D’Arbonne, reservoir in Union Parish, Louisiana
Lake D'Arbonne is a reservoir in northern Louisiana covering more than 16,000 acres with wooded shores and sandy beaches lining its banks. The calm water surface and fourteen public boat launch ramps make it accessible for fishing, boating, swimming, and water skiing.
The lake was created in the early 1960s when a dam was built across Bayou D'Arbonne to control flooding and secure water supply for nearby communities. Before its construction, the Louisiana legislature established the Bayou D'Arbonne Lake Watershed District to manage the area.
The lake is named after Bayou D'Arbonne, the waterway that feeds into it. Today, visitors see boats at launch ramps, fishing spots, and campsites where locals spend their leisure time enjoying water activities.
The lake is open year-round, with warmer months best for swimming and water activities. Visitors should be aware of water level changes and check conditions before boating trips.
The water holds many fish species including bass and catfish that provide good catches year-round for anglers. The lake is also home to waterfowl such as herons and ducks that visitors often spot along the shoreline.
