Georgia Cottage, Greek Revival cottage in Mobile, Alabama.
Georgia Cottage stands as a one-story wood-frame residence with a brick foundation, featuring classic Greek Revival architectural elements at Springhill Avenue.
Built in 1840 by Colonel John Murrell for his daughter, the property was later purchased in 1857 by novelist Augusta Jane Evans with proceeds from her first book.
The cottage served as the writing location for Augusta Jane Evans's notable works, including the novels Macaria and St. Elmo during the nineteenth century.
The property includes six acres of land with an entrance driveway lined by southern live oaks dating back to 1840, recognized under Alabama's Historic Trees Program.
Eugene Bondurant Sledge, a Marine Corps veteran and author, spent his childhood at Georgia Cottage after his father, Dr. Edward Simmons Sledge, acquired it in 1935.
