The Birmingham Alabama Temple is a modern religious building in Gardendale serving the Latter-day Saints community, with distinctive white marble exterior walls and a tall vertical form. Inside, the structure contains rooms designed for various religious ceremonies and rituals.

Announced on September 11, 1998, the Birmingham Alabama Temple was the first Latter-day Saints temple in Alabama. After two earlier sites proved unsuitable, the church chose a 5.6-acre property on Mount Olive Boulevard in Gardendale in April 1999. Ground was broken on October 9, 1999, and Gordon B. Hinckley dedicated the completed temple on September 3, 2000.

This temple serves the Latter-day Saints community in the southeastern region as a place for religious ceremonies and personal spiritual moments. The bright exterior is visible from the surrounding area and has become a recognizable landmark in the local landscape.

The temple stands on a tree-covered hillside at 1927 Mount Olive Boulevard in Gardendale, just east of Interstate 65, about 20 minutes by car from downtown Birmingham. Only church members holding a current temple recommend may enter; other visitors can view the marble exterior and landscaped grounds from outside. Nativity-themed statues are placed on the lawn and lit at night during the Christmas season.

The white marble covering the exterior walls comes from specialized quarries in Vermont and was specifically sourced for this building. This choice of material makes the structure visually distinct from other religious buildings in the surrounding area.
