Protective Stadium

Protective Stadium is an American football stadium in downtown Birmingham with 47,100 seats, located within the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. The facility spreads across several levels with wide entrances, open pedestrian plazas, and covered sections along the exterior.

The stadium opened on October 2, 2021, replacing the older Legion Field as the main venue for the University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers. Construction took about two years and aimed to integrate a modern sports center into the downtown fabric.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham football team plays its home games here, drawing thousands of fans from across the region into the stands. On game days, the chants and cheers of students and locals fill the seating areas with energy that carries far beyond the field.

The stadium sits near several main roads and offers access through pedestrian walkways connected to the convention center. Visitors find elevators and ramps at all entrances, along with numerous food stands on each level.

In 2022, the stadium transformed into an international stage for the World Games, hosting both opening and closing ceremonies for athletes from 110 countries. This global event brought an unusual variety of sports and cultures to a city better known for football.
