The temple opened its doors on September 3, 2000, following an eleven-month construction period on the third selected location in Gardendale.

The temple includes one baptistry, two ordinance rooms, and two sealing rooms, with services conducted through scheduled appointments for specific ceremonies.
The Imperial Danby White Marble that covers the exterior walls comes from specialized quarries in Vermont, giving the temple its characteristic appearance.
