Falkland Islands Community School, Secondary school in Stanley, Falkland Islands.
Falkland Islands Community School is a secondary school in Stanley, the capital of the Falkland Islands, following the English National Curriculum. It has science laboratories and technology workshops, and sits directly next to the islands' Leisure Centre.
The school opened in 1992 and has been the only secondary school on the islands since then. It was built next to the Leisure Centre as part of a broader effort to bring education and community life together in one area of Stanley.
Each year, the school hosts an art exhibition named after Susan Whitley, where students display their work to the wider community of Stanley. This event is one of the few occasions when residents can see what young people on the islands are creating.
The school is located in Stanley near the Leisure Centre, which can serve as a useful landmark. As it is an active educational institution, access for visitors is limited during school hours.
Students from remote farms across the islands who cannot travel to Stanley daily stay at Stanley House, a boarding facility linked to the school. This means that children from some of the most isolated places on Earth can follow a regular school programme during the week.
