Teatro Politeama, Municipal theatre in Canelones, Uruguay.

Teatro Politeama is a theatre in Canelones located at the intersection of Tomás Berreta and Florencio Sánchez streets. The building features orchestra seating and balcony sections providing different viewing angles of the stage.

Construction of the hall began in 1919, when the owners of the cinema at the Teatro Colón bought a plot opposite it for a larger venue; the architect Buenaventura Addiego designed and supervised the work. The theatre opened on 26 March 1921 with 750 seats. In 1983, for the city's bicentenary, the Intendencia Municipal de Canelones acquired it and reopened it on 17 December with the Tala municipal band, the Teatro de Canelones company, the municipal choir and folk ballet. Closed for restoration from August 2013 to September 2014, it was renamed Complejo Cultural Politeama – Teatro Atahualpa del Cioppo, and in June 2022 it was declared a National Historic Monument.

The name Politeama comes from the Greek words polis (many) and teama (themes), meaning "many themes". Since its 1921 opening the hall has hosted opera, zarzuela, theatre, concerts, cinema, lectures, gymnastics and acrobatics displays, and boxing matches. Its removable stage could be turned into a sand ring for visiting circuses.

The main Sala Atahualpa del Cioppo seats 291 in the stalls, 22 in the lower circle and 25 in the upper circle; the smaller Sala Beto Satragni holds 54 spectators. The building stands at the corner of Tomás Berreta and Florencio Sánchez streets. It was closed for refurbishment from August 2013 to September 2014.

The stage was built to be dismantled and covered with sand, letting the hall host circuses and boxing matches as well as opera and zarzuela. Its name comes from the Greek words for "many" and "themes".
