Edifício Japurá

Edifício Japurá is a residential complex in central São Paulo with 14 stories containing apartments of various layouts. The building links living spaces through covered bridges and features ground-floor shops plus green areas on the roof.

The building was designed in 1945 by architect Eduardo Kneese de Mello and represented an early application of modern urban housing concepts in Brazil. It replaced earlier collective housing in the Bexiga valley and set new standards for multifamily residences.

The building shaped the neighborhood's character with its distinctive concrete facades and linking bridges between residential blocks. These features became part of the local identity and marked the shift toward modern urban living in the city.

The building is located on Rua Japurá in central São Paulo and is easily accessible by public transport. The location offers a mix of residences and commercial spaces, making it a lively pedestrian area.
