Pancas

Pancas is a municipality in Espírito Santo state in southeastern Brazil, covering terrain characterized by granite rock formations and stone peaks that rise from the surrounding landscape. The settlement developed across this varied topography, with the natural formations serving as distinctive landmarks throughout the region.

Miners first arrived in 1918 to search for mineral deposits and established the initial permanent settlement. The municipality was then officially created in 1948, formalizing what had begun as a resource-extraction community.

Many residents speak Pomeranian, a Low German dialect, in their daily lives because German settlers arrived in the early 1900s and made this their home. This linguistic heritage remains visible in how the community celebrates together and shares traditions.

Pedra Agulha, a vertical granite needle formation, ranks as the second tallest natural stone column in Brazil and draws climbers and hikers from various places. This remarkable geological feature has become a notable landmark for the region.
