Sete Salões State Park, Nature conservation unit belonging to the state government of Minas Gerais
Sete Salões State Park is a protected nature reserve in Minas Gerais that spans thousands of hectares and combines forests, open grasslands, and rocky formations. The park contains a large sandstone cave system with ancient wall paintings, multiple streams, and a mountain peak that rises above the surrounding landscape.
The area became a state park in 1998 to protect native plants, animals, and archaeological sites within the region. The cave system with its wall paintings demonstrates evidence of early human presence and continues to be valued for its historical significance.
The park is accessible from nearby towns like Conselheiro Pena and Resplendor, with walking trails of varying difficulty, some lasting about two hours. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes, bring plenty of water, and consider hiring a local guide familiar with the terrain.
The Gruta dos Sete Salões cave gets its name from seven water-carved chambers that form an underground landscape visitors can explore. These naturally formed rooms create a maze-like passage that reveals the geological history carved into the rock.
