Alhambra Theatre, Performance theatre in Doornfontein, Johannesburg, South Africa
The Alhambra Theatre stands at 107 Sivewright Street with Romanesque Revival architecture designed by S.V. Mann in 1921.
Initially operating as a cinema, the venue transformed into a live performance space when the Johannesburg Operatic and Dramatic Society acquired it in 1977.
Producer Pieter Toerien staged numerous theatrical productions including Peter Shaffer's Amadeus and Agatha Christie's The Unexpected Guest during the 1980s.
The theatre complex expanded in 1983 with the addition of the Leonard Rayne Theatre and later the Richard Haines Theatre in 1991.
The building underwent renovation in 2017 to become an arts learning and training centre while maintaining its historical architectural elements.
