Johannesburg City Hall, Edwardian Baroque municipal building in Central Business District, South Africa.
The Johannesburg City Hall features a neo-Renaissance tower, Ionic columns portico, and four floors constructed with local materials and craftsmanship.
The cornerstone was laid in 1910 by Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, and the building opened in 1915 under Governor-General Lord Buxton.
The Norman & Beard organ, installed in 1916, established the City Hall as a central performance space for musical events in Johannesburg.
The structure contains two elevators and serves as the current home of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, following its transfer from Pretoria in 1995.
In 1937, workers dismantled the original tower to add an extra floor before reconstructing it, maintaining the building's architectural harmony.
