Manners Mansions, Art Deco residential building in central Johannesburg, South Africa.
Manners Mansions features fourteen floors with curved corners at the intersection of Jeppe and Joubert Streets in Johannesburg's commercial district.
African City Property Trust commissioned architects Emley and Williamson to design this structure, which was completed in 1940 at a cost of £148,000.
The ground floor contained premium retail spaces with bronze and glass shop fronts, including establishments like Madame Paulines and The French Model School.
The building combines residential apartments on upper levels with commercial spaces at street level, connected by a horseshoe-shaped staircase with mosaic details.
The structure's smooth curved design minimizes wind resistance, following principles from automotive and aircraft engineering of the 1930s.
