Standard Bank Centre

Standard Bank Centre is a 31-story skyscraper rising 139 meters in Johannesburg's central business district. The building features extensive glass facades with tinted double-glazed windows and contains eight elevators serving more than 30,000 square meters of open-plan office space without interior support columns.

The structure was completed in 1968 and held the title of Africa's tallest building until 1970. It lost this distinction when the Trust Bank Building surpassed its height.

The building represents Johannesburg's emergence as a financial hub during the 1960s and symbolizes the city's economic growth during that period. Its presence in the skyline reflects how banking institutions shaped the city's development and identity.
