St Stephen's Presbyterian Church and Manse, Queanbeyan

St Stephen's Presbyterian Church and Manse, Queanbeyan, Presbyterian church in Queanbeyan, Australia.

St Stephen's is a church building with Victorian Gothic Revival architecture located on Morisset Street in Queanbeyan. The structure features a bell tower, pointed lancet windows, and ornamental buttresses, accompanied by a separate manse that housed the minister.

Construction of the church began in 1872 under architect Alberto Dias Soares, with the manse designed by James Barnet following in 1881. This building phase came after decades of visiting ministers serving the Presbyterian congregation that had first gathered in the area during the 1830s.

The name honors Saint Stephen and reflects the Presbyterian traditions that shaped the congregation's identity. The church and adjoining manse together formed a spiritual and social center for the community's religious life.

The church and manse are listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register, ensuring both structures are protected and maintained. Plan time to view both buildings and appreciate the architectural features that define each one.

The architect Alberto Dias Soares, who was himself an Anglican minister, provided his architectural plans and specifications for the church at no cost. This generous donation from a clergyman of another faith demonstrates the cooperative spirit that existed among Queanbeyan's early settler communities.
