Historical Aircraft Restoration Society, Aviation museum and hangar in Shellharbour, Australia.
The Historical Aircraft Restoration Society Museum is a hangar filled with flying history at an airport south of Sydney. More than 40 aircraft stand here, from military planes to passenger jets from various decades.
The museum was founded in 1979 to preserve Australian aircraft from both wartime and peacetime eras. The collection focuses on machines that flew across the Asia-Pacific region during the 20th century.
Aviation enthusiasts and former pilots work together to bring rare machines back to life in these hangars. The restoration work shows how people connect with historical aircraft as more than just metal and engines.
A visit works best if you find out beforehand which aircraft are currently being restored and which ones are on display. The location near an active airfield means you may hear and see real flight operations while you explore.
One of the last few airworthy Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation aircraft in the world stands here. A donated Boeing 707 is on its way to join the collection and will also be restored.
