Kiama Post Office

Kiama Post Office is a two-story brick building with a distinctive corner clock tower, a colonnade, and multiple chimneys painted in soft pink tones. The structure combines Victorian Italianate styling with practical spaces for mail services, banking operations, and electoral administration.

Mail delivery at this site started in 1841 under postmaster George Hindmarsh, but the current building was constructed between 1877 and 1878 in response to community demands. The structure opened in 1880 after residents pressed for better postal infrastructure.

The Victorian Italianate design with Tuscan details reflects colonial ideals about progress and refinement in the late 1800s. Walking around the building, you can see how these European architectural choices shaped the town's identity and sense of civic pride.
