Fleet Air Arm Museum, Military aviation museum at HMAS Albatross base in Nowra, Australia
The Fleet Air Arm Museum is a military aviation museum located at the HMAS Albatross base near Nowra and houses around 34 aircraft and helicopters. The collection fills a large hangar-style building that overlooks the active runway of the naval air station.
Efforts to preserve naval aviation history began in 1974 when volunteers rescued five retired Royal Australian Navy aircraft from being scrapped. The museum formally opened its doors in 1990 and has continued to expand its collection since then.
Personal items, uniforms, and equipment on display reflect the lives of those who served in Australian naval aviation. These objects show how the work shaped the people who carried it out.
The museum spaces offer wheelchair access and facilities throughout the exhibition areas for visitor comfort. Allow several hours to explore the collection and spend time watching active military flight operations from the grounds.
Visitors can watch active military aircraft taking off and landing on the adjacent HMAS Albatross runway while exploring the museum. This combination makes it one of the few places where you experience aviation history alongside real flight operations.
