Yerriyong, Rural settlement in Shoalhaven, New South Wales, Australia.
Yerriyong is a rural settlement nestled in green valleys and eucalyptus forests in the Shoalhaven district, located about 17 kilometers southwest of Nowra. The area stretches along the route toward Nerriga and Canberra, with Braidwood Road providing the main connection to larger towns.
A provisional school opened in 1882 and marked the settlement's early development, later becoming a state school. The school operated until 1948, showing how the community evolved over that period.
The name comes from the Tharawal language, where 'Yerri' means tooth and reflects the indigenous heritage of the region. This linguistic connection shapes how locals relate to the land and its history.
Access to the area is best through Braidwood Road, which connects to Nowra and nearby towns. Since it is a small, remote settlement, visitors should arrange supplies from larger nearby communities beforehand.
The settlement had only about 25 residents recorded in the 2016 census, making it one of the least populated places in the Shoalhaven region. This small population gives the area its quiet, rural character with expansive open spaces between scattered homes.
