Glassford Creek Smelter Sites, Mining heritage site in Glassford State Forest, Queensland, Australia.
Glassford Creek Smelter Sites are remnants of a mining operation featuring two standing chimneys and brick structures scattered across the terrain. The locations show different phases of metal processing with clearly visible pits and foundations from the early 1900s.
The site was founded in 1893 and evolved from silver mining through gold extraction to copper production. Around 1903, reverberatory furnaces were built, marking the transition to large-scale metal processing.
The smelter sites demonstrate the evolution of mining technology in Queensland through preserved structures and processing areas from the early twentieth century.
Access requires a four-wheel drive vehicle and follows a track from Monto-Many Peaks Road. Visitors should prepare for the remote location and limited facilities available on site.
The population of the mining settlement experienced a dramatic decrease from 346 to 40 residents within the same year of 1907.
