Glassford Creek Smelter Sites, Mining heritage site in Glassford State Forest, Queensland, Australia.
The Glassford Creek Smelter Sites contain two standing chimneys, remnants of brick structures, and multiple processing pits spread across the former mining facility.
Discovered in 1893, the site transformed from silver to gold mining before becoming a copper operation with the construction of reverberatory smelters in 1903.
The smelter sites demonstrate the evolution of mining technology in Queensland through preserved structures and processing areas from the early twentieth century.
Access to the sites requires a four-wheel drive vehicle, following a track from Monto-Many Peaks Road for approximately 7.5 kilometers past the last farmstead.
The population of the mining settlement experienced a dramatic decrease from 346 to 40 residents within the same year of 1907.
