Camp Shelby, Military training center in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Camp Shelby is a military training facility spanning 134,000 acres across Perry and Forrest Counties. The grounds combine Department of Defense lands with areas from the DeSoto National Forest.
The facility was established in 1917 to train soldiers for World War I, initially serving as a training site for the 37th Division from Ohio and the 38th Division from Kentucky. This marked the beginning of long-term use for troop preparation.
The Mississippi Armed Forces Museum displays exhibits about military service across American conflicts from the colonial period to today. The collection brings together the experiences of soldiers from different eras in one place.
The facility has three entry points, with the South and East Gates open continuously while the North Gate operates from 6 AM to 6 PM. Visitors should plan their route based on expected arrival time.
The facility houses one of only two locations worldwide specifically built for C-17 Globemaster III aircraft landing operations. This specialization makes it a critical training center for strategic airlift missions.
