Harry S. Truman Little White House, Presidential historic site in Key West, United States.
The Harry S. Truman Little White House is a historic house museum in Key West, Florida, that once served as a presidential winter residence. The rooms contain original furnishings from the mid-20th century along with personal belongings and exhibits related to the president's stays between 1946 and 1952.
The building was constructed in 1890 as quarters for naval officers and later converted into a headquarters for fleet commanders. President Truman used it as a retreat between 1946 and 1952, spending a total of 175 days there.
The furnishings date mostly to the late 1940s and show how a working president arranged his winter retreat. Visitors see the desk where Truman read documents and the poker table where he spent evenings with friends.
Guided tours run daily between 9 AM and 4:30 PM and last around 45 minutes. The museum sits within the historic naval station and is reached by a short walk from downtown.
In 2001 the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan came here to discuss territorial conflicts. This unexpected peace conference linked the residence to international diplomacy well beyond Truman's presidency.
