Audubon House and Tropical Gardens, Historic mansion with tropical gardens in Key West, United States.
The Audubon House contains a collection of European antique furnishings and features extensive gardens with orchids, bromeliads, and tropical plants throughout the property.
Built in the 1840s by Captain John Huling Geiger, the house was saved from demolition in 1958 by the Mitchell Wolfson Family Foundation, initiating Key West's preservation movement.
The house exhibits 28 first-edition Audubon works and numerous prints from his 'Birds of America' series, documenting the natural history of Florida's bird species.
Located at 205 Whitehead Street in Key West, the museum opens daily from 9:30 AM to 4:15 PM, with the gallery and gift shop remaining open until 5:00 PM.
John James Audubon visited this location in 1832, where he discovered and illustrated 18 new bird species, including the white-crowned pigeon near the Geiger tree.
