Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory

Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory is a glass-enclosed facility where dozens of butterfly species fly freely among tropical plants and flowers in a warm, humid environment. The conservatory opened in 2003 after converting a former retail building into a space dedicated to butterfly observation and scientific study. Since then it has grown into an educational center that combines research with visitor experiences.

The indoor space stays warm and very humid all year, so wear light breathable clothing and allow time to adjust when entering. Move slowly and stay calm throughout your visit to avoid startling or stressing the flying insects.

Two flamingos named Rhett and Scarlett share the conservatory with hundreds of butterflies, creating an unusual mix of different animal species. This surprising combination makes the experience more memorable than a typical butterfly garden.
