Salto del Guayabo, Natural waterfall in Holguín Province, Cuba.
Salto del Guayabo is a waterfall that plunges down steep rocky faces in two dramatic drops, with the water flowing into natural pools below. The water cuts through dense tropical forest vegetation and creates several collection basins along its course.
The site was developed as a protected nature reserve to safeguard the waterfall formation and the surrounding forest ecosystem.
The name comes from a guava tree species found in the region, and locals visit here to connect with nature and gather for outings.
Start your visit early in the day since the forest trail takes several hours and shade becomes less abundant as the day progresses. Wear sturdy footwear and bring plenty of water, as the terrain can be rocky and the climate warm.
Natural pools known as Pozas de Rafael form at the base of the waterfall, providing swimming opportunities amid the tropical forest environment.
