Holguín Province, Province in eastern Cuba
Holguín Province extends over 9,300 square kilometers of territory, with 25 percent of its land covered by dense forests and mountain ranges.
Christopher Columbus first landed in this region on October 27, 1492, marking the initial European contact with what would later become Holguín Province.
The province includes fourteen municipalities with distinct local traditions, from the historical port of Gibara to the mining center of Moa.
The provincial airport connects directly with Canada and Europe, providing access to the beach resorts along the Costa Holguinera within one hour of travel.
The Moa region contains one of the largest nickel processing facilities in Cuba, operating through international investment partnerships, particularly with Canadian companies.
