Bayside Bridge

The Bayside Bridge spans 2.7 miles across the northwestern section of Tampa Bay, connecting the cities of Clearwater and Largo with six traffic lanes.

The bridge opened on June 2, 1993, following construction funded by a ten-year extension of gasoline taxes known as the Penny for Pinellas program.

The Greater Clearwater Chamber of Commerce organized an inaugural bridge walk called Bayside Boogie, allowing residents to cross before vehicle traffic began.

The structure functions as a bypass for US 19, handles 68,807 vehicles daily, and maintains a speed limit of 55 miles per hour across its twin spans.

Engineers report that construction variations created noticeable surface undulations on the northbound lanes, though these do not affect the bridge's structural integrity.
