Florida Carriage Museum & Resort

The Florida Carriage Museum was a collection of horse-drawn carriages located on an expansive equestrian property with stables and training facilities near Weirsdale. The grounds included many different types of vehicles, ranging from everyday transportation to elaborately decorated formal pieces.

The museum was established in the 1990s to preserve the history of horse-drawn transportation. After several decades of operation, the collection was largely sold and dispersed, though a portion has remained.

The collection displayed various types of carriages that reflect how people and goods were transported in different ways across time. Visitors can observe the craftsmanship that went into building each vehicle for its specific purpose.

The property is very large and best explored by car, as the different display areas are spread throughout the grounds. You should wear comfortable walking shoes and plan to spend several hours there.

Some of the original carriages can still be viewed at the adjacent Equine Heritage Institute, where they point to less common pieces. This preserved collection shows how dedicated collectors work to save such historical items from being lost.
