Yulee Sugar Mill Ruins State Historic Site, Historic sugar mill site in Homosassa, Florida, US.
Yulee Sugar Mill Ruins is the site of a 19th-century sugar processing facility with stone foundations, iron machinery, and a limestone chimney rising about 40 feet (12 meters). The grounds display the physical infrastructure of a large industrial operation from that era.
The facility was established in 1851 and operated as a sugar production site until 1864. It was part of the economic infrastructure of the region during the American Civil War era.
The site tells the story of Florida's agricultural past through the visible remains of steam-powered equipment and production systems. Visitors can see how sugar processing was organized and what role machinery played in the operation.
The park sits directly beside US Route 19 and is easy to reach. The grounds have maintained pathways, informational signs, and picnic areas for visitors.
The iron parts and pressing machinery were shipped from New York and carefully installed on this site. This method of transport was common for large machines in the 19th century and shows how important the operation was.
