Dunnellon Boomtown Historic District

Dunnellon Boomtown Historic District is a neighborhood with around 70 historic buildings situated north of the Withlacoochee River. The structures span multiple blocks and display various architectural styles from the era when phosphate mining shaped the region's growth.

The district emerged in the 1880s as phosphate mining and railroad development drew workers to the area. The rapid expansion during these boom years shaped the layout and building styles visible today.

Victorian wooden houses throughout the district display decorative details that reflect the skill of local craftsmen from that era. Walking through the streets, visitors can see how residents chose to personalize their homes with these distinctive touches.

One particularly old building, the Renfro Boarding House from the 1880s, was originally built to house railroad workers. This structure reveals how workers lived during the area's rapid growth period.
