Cornell Museum of Art & American Culture, Art museum in Delray Beach, United States
The Cornell Museum of Art & American Culture occupies a 1913 school building with restored Dade County Pine floors and tall windows in downtown Delray Beach. Multiple gallery spaces within the structure display various art forms and exhibitions.
The building was originally Delray Elementary School but was transformed into an art museum in 1990 with support from local residents Harriet and George Cornell. This conversion from educational space to cultural venue marked a significant development in the region's artistic growth.
The museum features rotating exhibitions of contemporary work by Florida artists working across different media and techniques. Visitors encounter the diversity of the region's creative scene through displays that celebrate local artistic practices.
The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday with free admission and offers guided tours and a museum store. Weekly live music performances take place on site, so ask about the schedule when you visit.
A 2017 renovation created an open atrium extending to the second floor that brings natural light into the exhibition spaces of the former school building. This architectural change transformed how the spaces feel and how visitors move through the galleries.
