Eastover, Historic estate in Manalapan, Florida
Eastover is an oceanfront estate in Manalapan, Florida, spanning 3.75 acres with 350 feet of coastline along South Ocean Boulevard. The property includes a detached guest house built in the mid-1990s.
Harold Stirling Vanderbilt and his wife Gertrude commissioned Swiss architect Maurice Fatio to design the house, which was completed in 1930. The estate is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The estate reflects how wealthy American families chose to build coastal homes in Florida during the 1920s. The design shows what mattered to affluent households of that era in how they shaped their oceanfront properties.
The house is a private residence today and can be viewed from the street as it sits in a residential coastal neighborhood. South Ocean Boulevard runs alongside the property and provides the best vantage point for seeing it from public areas.
Film producer Melvin Simon owned the estate before Randolph Apperson Hearst, son of media magnate William Randolph Hearst, purchased it in 2000. This connection to one of American media's most influential families added to the property's story.
