Miami Gardens, Modern urban center in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States
Miami Gardens is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, located in a flat region around 2 meters (6.5 feet) above sea level. The city spreads across several residential neighborhoods, commercial corridors, and parks connected by wide roads and rows of palm trees.
The area grew from rural land into suburban developments starting in the 1940s before incorporating as an independent city in 2003. The incorporation merged several community sections under a single municipal government.
The city takes its name from one of the first residential developments built here in the 1940s. Many residents speak English and Creole side by side, heard in stores, churches, and neighborhood gatherings throughout the area.
Visitors find recreation in public parks and sports facilities, many of which are accessible during daylight hours. Orientation works best using main roads, as bus stops and intersections serve as reference points.
Hard Rock Stadium on the northern city edge draws thousands of visitors each year for concerts, sporting events, and festivals. The Jazz in the Gardens festival each spring turns the stadium into an open-air stage for international artists.
