Astronaut beach house, Single-family home and convention center in Cape Canaveral, US
The Astronaut Beach House is a two-story seaside building with weatherboard siding and large windows facing the Atlantic Ocean in Cape Canaveral, US. Inside, the ground floor holds two living rooms and a kitchen, while the upper level is arranged as a meeting area.
Built in 1962 as part of the Neptune Beach neighborhood, the house was bought by NASA the following year for a little over thirty thousand dollars as the space center expanded. After damage from Hurricane Matthew in 2016, it was repaired and later reopened under the name Kennedy Space Center Conference Center.
Crew members and their families have long used the house for private meals and gatherings before a flight, creating a ritual of connection away from the launch site. Signed wine bottles with mission stickers are kept inside, marking each journey that passed through this quiet retreat.
The house sits close to the shore, so the ocean breeze and sound of waves are constant companions while you are there. Because the area is occasionally hit by storms, it is wise to check the weather before planning a visit to the waterfront.
The property stands roughly 50 meters (about 160 feet) from the water, squeezed between two launch pads called Pad 40 and Pad 41. Despite being surrounded by a working spaceport, this simple family home was kept while every other house in the old neighborhood was removed.
