Independence, Space Shuttle replica in United States of America

Independence is a full-size replica of a NASA space orbiter displayed in Houston. The shuttle demonstrates the scale and complexity of the vehicles designed to carry people beyond Earth.

The replica was built in 1993 under the name Explorer before being renamed Independence. It arrived at the space center as a full-scale mockup to show the public what actual spacecraft looked like.

The shuttle represents American innovation and the dreams of space exploration that have captured people's imagination worldwide since the 1980s. Visitors can directly understand what it means to reach for space through advanced technology.

The shuttle is located at Space Center Houston and can be seen as part of a museum visit. Visitors should plan adequate time to explore the scale and details of the vehicle.

Independence never flew to space, but visitors can walk inside and experience the width and depth of an actual orbiter. This hands-on experience reveals how large and intricate these vehicles truly are.
