Kemah Boardwalk, Waterfront amusement park in Kemah, Texas, US
Kemah Boardwalk is a waterfront amusement park on Galveston Bay with rides, restaurants, and shops scattered along several wooden piers. The complex stretches from the shore to docking areas and offers views of the water and passing boats.
The site evolved from an old fishing dock into a leisure complex with multiple dining venues and attractions in the late 1990s. The wooden coaster opened in 2007 and added a classic ride to the lineup.
The name Kemah comes from the Karankawa language and means "wind facing," a reference to the breeze that sweeps across Galveston Bay on most days. Families walk the wooden planks in the evening, stopping at game booths and watching boats dock along the marina.
Individual rides can be purchased on-site or combined with all-day passes that apply from a certain height. Access to the grounds is free, with payment required only for attractions.
The wooden coaster crosses its own track more than 40 times, a rare feature among classic constructions of this type. At night, the supports are lit and cast shadows on the water below.
