William H. Waterhouse House
William H. Waterhouse House, National Register historic house in Maitland, Florida.
The William H. Waterhouse House is a historic residence in Maitland featuring a two-and-a-half-story L-shaped structure made of pine wood. The property includes an adjoining 1883 Carpentry Shop Museum that houses a collection of 19th-century woodworking tools and equipment.
Carpenter William Waterhouse built the house in 1884, and it underwent changes in 1908, 1910, 1930, and the 1950s. These modifications show how the dwelling evolved over the decades while keeping its Victorian character.
The house operates as a museum run by the Maitland Historical Society, displaying furnished rooms that show how residents lived during the late Victorian era. The spaces reveal the domestic habits and daily rhythms of that time period.
Both the main house and the adjoining workshop display original furnishings and period tools that give insight into daily life and craftsmanship from that era. Allow time to explore both areas fully to understand how people worked and lived during this period.
The dining room features an unusual decorative hand as a centerpiece, while a preserved hair wreath shows mourning customs from the Victorian period. These objects reveal how people expressed personal memories and emotions in their homes long ago.
