The Plaza Live is a performance hall in Colonial Town Center, Orlando, Florida, with capacity for roughly 1250 people. The main auditorium includes a seated balcony and an open floor area where audiences stand or move around.
The Plaza Live opened as Orlando's first two-screen cinema and was nicknamed the Rocking Chair Theatre by locals. It showed second-run films and long runs of The Rocky Horror Picture Show until 1992, when it became The Dove Family Entertainment Theatre, staging only Christian-themed shows. The Salthouse Group bought the 39-year-old venue in September 2002 for $1.7 million, and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra purchased building, contents and business in August 2013 for $3.4 million.
The venue maintains a calendar of national touring musicians, theater productions, and comedy shows, representing multiple genres throughout the year.
The hall has professional lighting and sound systems available for most events. Additional production equipment can be arranged when needed.
Locals nicknamed the cinema the Rocking Chair Theatre, and the old rocking chairs stayed in use until 2012, when they were removed to allow standing-room or fully seated configurations. The black marquee outside still carries the name The Plaza Live in white letters.
