Granada Bridge, Road bridge in Ormond Beach, Florida.
Granada Bridge is a road bridge in Ormond Beach, Florida, spanning the Halifax River and the Intracoastal Waterway. It carries four lanes of traffic and has separate pathways on each side for people on foot or by bike.
A wooden bridge was built here in 1887 and was replaced several times as traffic across the river grew. The current structure dates to 1983 and replaced an earlier version from 1954.
The Granada Bridge links downtown Ormond Beach to the beach, and many locals cross it on foot or by bike as part of their daily routine. The rest areas at each end are often used by people who stop to watch boats pass along the waterway.
The pedestrian and cycling paths on each side of the bridge are wide and clearly marked, making them easy to use for people of all ages. Rest areas with benches and picnic facilities at both ends give visitors a place to stop before or after crossing.
In 1997, a kitten named Lucky survived a fall from the bridge, and local residents came together to help cover her veterinary bills. The story caught the attention of the local press and stayed in the memory of many people in Ormond Beach.
