Rowallan, Neoclassical residence in Ormond Beach, Florida

Rowallan is a symmetrical neoclassical house featuring grand columns at 253 John Anderson Highway in Ormond Beach. The structure displays balanced proportions and classical architectural details typical of this building style.

The house was founded in 1913 by Alexander Millar Lindsay from Stewarton, Ayrshire, Scotland, who built it as his winter home in Florida. The property was later added to the National Register of Historic Places, securing its status as a protected landmark.

Inside, wildlife and bird murals painted by artist Joy Postle decorate the walls and showcase the natural life of Florida. These images give the rooms their distinct character and reflect the importance of the local environment.

The property sits on a main highway in Ormond Beach, making it easy to locate and approach. Visitors can observe the exterior architecture and explore the grounds at their own pace.

The house was designed by the founder's daughter, Jean Lindsay, and features thoughtful details such as ground-level entrances that require no exterior steps. This design was ahead of its time in considering accessibility.
