The Waits Mansion features a two-story design with recessed porches supported by fluted Doric columns and white wrought iron fencing along adjacent streets.
Built in the 1920s by lumber company owner George Orkney Waits, the mansion later changed ownership multiple times and served different purposes, including apartments and a bed and breakfast.
The mansion reflects the architectural preferences of wealthy Americans in the 1920s who incorporated Mediterranean design elements into residential structures across Florida.
The interior layout includes a grand central staircase from the entrance foyer to a windowed landing, with additional smaller stairways providing access to the second floor.
James C. Waits enhanced the property in 1936 by planting azaleas and camellias around the grounds, creating a garden setting that remains part of the estate.
