Three Rivers State Park, State park in Jackson County, Florida.
Three Rivers State Park is a Florida state park in the northern part of the state, close to the Georgia border, set along the shores of Lake Seminole. The grounds cover forested hills, wetlands, and open water access, with a campground and several trails running through them.
The park was established in 1955 at the point where the Chattahoochee and Flint rivers, both coming from Georgia, meet to form Lake Seminole before continuing south as the Apalachicola River. This meeting of waters has shaped the land and the communities around it for a very long time.
Three Rivers State Park is part of the Great Florida Birding Trail, making it a popular stop for people who want to watch bald eagles and water birds in their natural setting. Walking the trails early in the morning gives the best chance of spotting wildlife before the day heats up.
The park is in the far north of Florida, near the town of Sneads, and is most easily reached by car. Fall and winter are the most comfortable seasons to visit, when the weather cools down and wildlife is easier to spot along the trails and the lake shore.
Hurricane Michael struck the park in 2018 and caused widespread damage to the tree cover and trails, leaving large open areas where dense forest once stood. Walking through today, visitors can still see the contrast between older growth and the younger plants coming back, which tells the story of that storm as clearly as any sign.
